Antique Gold Bangle with a Silver Centrepiece Full of Rose-Cut Diamonds
The centrepiece is silver, the bangle gold. That is how it was built in the nineteenth century, because silver makes diamonds read white. The plaque is riveted onto gold mounts and sits on the bangle like a brooch of its own.
Five larger rose-cut diamonds stand side by side, the middle one ringed by tiny roses, with scrolls and ribbons set down to the last turn. Rose cuts do not flash like modern brilliants. They glow, and on the wrist that warm light travels with every movement.
Every collet was scalloped by hand, every small rose set one at a time. Nobody works like this any more. The silver carries the dark patina that belongs to it, and the gold is clean and free of dents.
